Greenfrog Sleep Center’s History

The question we are most often asked is, “How did Greenfrog get its name?” so here is the answer.
In the beginning, 1969, Greenfrog was a Black Light/Poster/Head Shop. The store was located on Victory Drive and was a draw for a very specific clientele. The owner bought a waterbed one day to see what they were like and stuck it in the warehouse as it was quite a chore to set one up back then.

In 1974, the store, now located in Chatham Plaza, was sold to it’s second owners. They found the waterbed and decided to set it up as a display. Much to their surprise, it sold that day and was quite an item. After doing some research the owners decided to order in more waterbeds and renamed the store Greenfrog Waterbeds.

In 1987, the store was sold to its present owner who realized that the waterbed market was shrinking so she decided to order in mattresses and bedroom furniture along with the waterbeds. She renamed the store Greenfrog Sleep Center. Today, she and her daughter co-own the store which is now located at 7501 Abercorn Street. They still carry waterbed supplies for those who need them and can answer any questions you may have about sleeping on water.

Greenfrog specializes in providing all the types of beds for any individual sleep need and preference.
